Unfortunately, like many coastal communities around the world, Sidi Kaouki faces increasing waste management challenges. Plastic bottles, food packaging, fishing debris, and other litter can sometimes be found on our beaches, in the dunes, and around public spaces. Beyond impacting the beauty of the area, waste threatens local wildlife, marine ecosystems, and ultimately the quality of life of both residents and visitors.
The problem cannot be solved by local authorities alone. It requires cooperation from businesses, residents, and tourists alike.
One of the most inspiring initiatives in Sidi Kaouki is the work carried out by Surfrider Foundation Maroc - Antenne Sidi Kaouki. Created in 2021 by local volunteers passionate about protecting the ocean and coastline, the association focuses on three main objectives: mobilizing, educating, and raising awareness about environmental protection.
Through regular beach cleanups, educational programs, and community events, the organization helps keep our coastline cleaner while encouraging long-term environmental responsibility. Its volunteers work alongside local businesses, surf clubs, hotels, restaurants, schools, and residents to create positive change.
